CURWENSVILLE – The Curwensville-Pike Township Historical Society is presenting a special program highlighting weaving and textile methods from the 1800’s on Monday,April 14 at 7:00 p.m. at the Curwensville High School’s Makerspace. The featured speaker will be Anna Whitaker. Whitaker explained she is interested in “preserving knowledge about traditional craftwork” and has been learning to weave on an 1800’s loom that she, herself restored.“For my talk, I’ll discuss how cloth and textiles were made by hand and by water-powered looms, and where woolen mills were located and who ran them.“I’ll explain the weaving process from sheep to the finished cloth, so no background knowledge is necessary.” She will have examples of some of the 1800’s tools and woven blankets, on hand or attendees to examine. Her work and research is important to her. “I hope to be able to replicate some of the historical woven patterns from Clearfield County,” she said. For more information on this and other programs being offered by the society check out their Facebook page.
